Puppy propaganda ... Innocent Riley has found himself caught in the line of fire
IT seems the joke went right over North Korea’s head after a state-run TV network used an internet-famous image of a dog to slam Western extravagance.
Yes, dopey little Riley, the fluffy pup who became a much-loved meme for looking happily stoned at his first birthday party, has been unfairly targeted.
KCTV current affairs show Today’s World aired a segment that used pictures of cheerful dogs to argue that canines are better looked after in the US than the country’s poor.
That was dogs. Plural. Riley wasn’t the only pooch to cop it.
There’s the dog sitting at a dining table looking mighty pleased with its two glasses of champagne.
There’s also the outrageous terrier eating cake from a plate, as well as the puppy tea party.
Then there was the world’s tallest dog who died in 2013, Giant George. Just because.
KCTV committee commentator Lee Chung-song claims in the clip that American billionaires are buying $15,000 dog collars, paying for dog hotels and spas or even hosting expensive birthday parties for their canines (a la Riley), all the while many homeless people are living in boxes.
And while much of this may be true, they may want to rethink their ‘paw’ choice in images when trying to back up such points.
